Anke Becker’s work is all about putting together small single pieces and different structures into new - often large sized - compositions, She is dealing with landscape-like structures ranging between abstraction and concrete - the drawings and collages often look like large imaginary maps.

The artist is aiming to create fictitious settings and mental constructions which could never be existent for real: parallel worlds to enrich the daily main-world. Anke Becker mainly works on paper using coloured pencils, felt tip pens, marker, ball pens, fine liner and wax crayons. She mostly combines drawing with collages of foto cut outs. In her works you will never find human figuration: The only reference to human existence are architectural details or cut outs of magazines and photos showing skin and hair structures which are melting into the main setting.

These formal principals include many questions in which the artist is interested even beyond art: How can fixed social and structures and organizing principles be connected with the desire of personal and mental freedom? How is it possible to create out of often overwhelming chaos together with analytical clarity a meaningful whole? How can humour and playfulness be combined with precision and strictness?

Anke Becker works on the contrast and on the alliance of structural chaos and formal order. Anke Becker never works from one viewpoint / position, but she moves herself while drawing round the sheet of paper, just to avoid classical structures of composition and with the aim to create the impression of a bird’s eye view.

A certain kind of delimitation and displacement of the perspective she considers as helpful: In her works she attempts to generate a potential „Growing over the border“ of the drawn structures. With her drawings Anke Becker develops a personal vision of beauty: She tries to create a balance between different contrasting and often pushing off pieces.
