Carolina Raquel Antich's canvases depict mainly children before puberty; a group of svelte boys playing soldiers or portrait of a girl whose expression betrays the awaking of her ego. Those children on her paintings, encircled by an ample blank space and portrayed with a delicate touch, they are just as if caught at a certain moment of their changeable moods, in their innocence and naiveness, or in their obstinacy and cruelty as well. When we face to Antich's work, we may feel that her paintings recall also our own childhood, concealed deeply in the memory.
Born in Rosario, Argentina, Carolina Raquel Antich currently lives and works in Venice. She has exhibited extensively in South America and Italy, gained international recognition when she received the Italian Youth Art Prize and exhibited at the 51st Venice Biennale in 2005. Thereafter Antich held solo exhibitions in New York and London and keeps attracting greater number of audience.
Exhibition this time, entitled 'beyond the sunrise', is Carolina Raquel Antich's first solo in Japan. It gathers 18 of her latest canvasses in middle and small format.
