Photography invades Madrid's literary quarter with an intensive programme for the general public. Over the course of one evening and night, La Noche de la Fotografía (Photography Night) will include exhibitions, open-air projections, live music, happenings in urban settings and a PHotoMarathon.
On 8 June photography will take over Madrid's Barrio de las Letras with activities organised as part of the outdoor programme PHotoEspaña en la Calle. Concentrated into just one evening and night, the event will be called La Noche de la Fotografía. Aimed at integrating photography and art with the urban environment, the initiative is designed as a great public celebration featuring Madrid citizens, photography and the city's streets.
As a special concession for La Noche de la Fotografía, art centres and galleries will stay open later than usual to enable visitors to view exhibitions until well into the early hours. The event kicks off with the PHotoMarathon, which is open to all ages and levels of expertise, and consists of a tour of the city in which citizens, camera in hand, are invited to complete a series of tests related to photography. The resulting images will subsequently be exhibited in Plaza del Ángel. Other open-air projections will take place in the squares Santa Ana, Platería Martínez and Las Letras.
The festive atmosphere will be further enhanced street musicians and DJs, who will entertain in the various streets and squares involved in the action. There will also be a series of activities involving the urban furniture and commercial establishments in the Barrio de Las Letras, whose windows will host images of the festival. PHotoEspaña will set up fixed and mobile information points around the Barrio de las Letras for visitors wishing to take part in the programme.
