A painting is wall support, a large-dimensioned folio and a writing space in which shapes are distributed over the surface with a "narrative" intent. Taking into account this space for "writing" (very close to the origin of language), Freixanes uses printed cloth as his support in most cases: cloths that already contain a motif as a sort of signal, marks that condition the work from the start. They come from various places and are usually extracted from their original space: figures that are fragments of photographs, spots, drawings, etc. join in a harmonious appearance until eventually building a language. The picture is not an isolated object. It is part of a group, like the chapters of a novel or the poems in a poetry book. This is how the exhibition that Freixanes now offers in Madrid's Galería May Moré should be understood.
