The twentieth century was characterized by a radical transformation of the plastic arts. An uninterrupted process initiated by the Vanguards to give support to the new intellectual concepts. Traditional figuration was subjected to a purifying process that ended up placing the work of Art above any connotation that was foreign to its own reality.
The twentieth century was also the century of transportation, migrations, perpetual movement. And of new technologies that radically change the customs of societies and individuals. Computers, photocopiers, digital cameras . . . the language of science is now the universal language.
Art is never alien to its environment, and for the last one hundred years it has produced a thousand and one movements that claim technology as a source of inspiration and a means of plastic expression. Geometric Abstraction, Kinetic Art, Op Art, Computer Art . . . the new horizons closely link sensual stimulation to scientific and technological advances, as you can see now at Arteselección.
Great passions for geometry are here in our gallery in the Barrio of Letters. Impossible Figures by José María Yturralde, eclectic abstractions by Marta Cárdenas, modular calculations by Elena Asíns, false movements by Eusebio Sempere . . . Emotion remains in a jagged universe.
