The NOPHOTO group intervenes in Matadero Madrid to express and interpret the transformation of the capital's new cultural symbol. An old refrigerated warehouse will be the exhibition space for a show that includes archive images, photographs and projections.
Muta Matadero x NOPHOTO (Matadero Mutates by NOPHOTO) is a visual project devised and carried out by NOPHOTO that documents the transformation of Matadero Madrid, which has become the capital's new cultural symbol.
Developed in an old refrigerated warehouse now transformed into the "Abierto por obras" exhibition space, this show is organised around three time axes: Past, Present and Process. The first uses images compiled from photographic archives and family albums to document the history of the former slaughterhouse ever since its origin as an industrial establishment and the relationship of this place with the neighbourhood and its residents throughout the twentieth century. The second axis, Present, shows the current condition of Matadero's surroundings in photographs by Matías Costa, Iñaki Domingo, Jorquera, Carlos Sanva, Marta Soul and Juan Valbuena. And finally, Process offers a photographic follow-up on the works that have transformed Matadero's architectural space and its surroundings, as portrayed by Carlos Luján, Juan Millás, Eduardo Nave and Juan Santos.
NOPHOTO is a group formed by 14 photographers born between 1968 and 1978 that acts as a platform for individual and group projects that reflect on the medium. Awarded the Best New Photographer Prize in the last edition of PHotoEspaña, NOPHOTO does not reject any form of creation and is in favour of contagion from disciplines like video and literature and alternative dissemination methods such as the Web and digital projection.
