The new exhibition season is starting up at arteselección with one of the most solid artists of the last century: Joan Hernández Pijuán. His unexpected death in 2005 led to a dizzying increase in value that has made his paintings practically unattainable, but it is still possible to obtain quality prints and lithographs at affordable prices, as you can see these days at arteselección.
Hernández Pijuán was an extraordinary engraver, and all of his graphic work is impregnated with the essence of his enormous artistic project. Passionate and with the sensuality exuded by the ordinary things in life - flowers wilting in a vase, newly reaped fields - most of his creations are based on intimate realities in order to reflect on the relation between space and objects.
He was not, as it may seem, an abstract artist. He considered himself a landscape painter, albeit not a traditional one at all, because his works do not represent the landscape itself, but rather they capture the spirit that inhabits within it. His taste for sobriety and his concern for volume reflect a sensibility typical of the time he was destined to live in, and the objects he paints - generally isolated ones - give a metaphysical dimension to space that makes contemplating his lithographs even more pleasant.
To initiate this season, the specialists at arteselección have chosen some of his best creations, and they will be on exhibit at the gallery in the Letras District until October 17. However, as always at arteselección, they can also be purchased comfortably through Internet.
